PRAB (Puerto Rican Action Board), a comprehensive human services organization with headquarters in New Brunswick, New Jersey, announced that it was re-certified as a HUD-approved counseling agency. After a successful comprehensive site review, HUD found that PRAB met all of the requirements to continue serving individuals and families in Middlesex County.
As a HUD Counseling Agency (HCA), PRAB will provide the following services through its Housing Coalition of Central Jersey, in accordance with its housing counseling work plan:
Mortgage Delinquency & Default Resolution Counseling
Services for the Homeless
Pre-purchase Homebuyer Education Workshops
Financial Literacy Workshops
In 2017, PRAB’s Housing Coalition served nearly 800 unduplicated individuals, and offered 12 First Time Homebuyer Education Seminars. Our program goal is “to increase knowledge and enhance the ability of individuals and families to purchase and maintain safe, affordable residences,” said Program Manager, Gloria Melendez. This year, 57 families have already participated in these seminars, and 138 individuals have received one-on-one counseling services in tenant/landlord rights and responsibilities, eviction, affordable housing, and homelessness prevention. “I am so thankful I attended the session,” stated Beverly Cooper, a recent First Time Home Buyer Education Program participant. “It was a wealth of knowledge. The most important part for me was stepping out on faith and following through on all the knowledge, program, and assistance provided, and putting it into immediate action.”
