Staff Spotlight: Julie Jerome

Meet Our Staff: Julie Jerome! Julie is our Multi-Service and Community Food Pantry Coordinator, and she has been a partner with PRAB for almost nine years. Serving in our Multi-Service Center, Julie provides many different services, but we will be highlighting her work with the Community Food Pantry for #FeedFebruary.

As the Vice-Chair of the New Brunswick Community Food Alliance, Julie is dedicated to advocating for the abolition food insecurity in the community. What is food insecurity? The American Pediatric Association defines food insecurity as “the limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways.” Many residents of New Brunswick regularly experience food insecurity, but our Community Food Pantry assists them on a weekly basis.

There are an estimated 120 beneficiaries of our pantry services weekly, and we primarily serve individuals and families that meet an income of, or below 200% of the poverty level. To be a recipient of our services, you must have a form of identification. Our pantry is open each Thursday at 9:00am, and distributes food on a first-come first-serve basis. We are patrons of the Middlesex County Food Organization and Outreach Distribution Services (MCFOODS), which helps us distribute food to the community. It is worth noting that we have an exceptionally dedicated team that help run the pantry: Most recently, Tina Pozza who picks up food weekly, Dionne Roberts, Saquette Neal, and Anna “Cuqui” Rivera, in addition to many others who have always and continue to offer a helping hand. We are thankful for all they have done to help our community fight hunger.

We are also hosting a food drive that ends today, so if you would like to donate any canned goods or nonperishable food items, we would gladly accept them! We would also take food donations any time you would like to give. For the benefit of our pantry recipients, we try to focus on giving them healthier food items, such as low-sodium canned goods, healthy snacks, and spices for seasoning. For more information about our Community Food Pantry, or PRAB, please email! We are appreciative for Julie and all of her hard work with our organization!
